Monster Mania: Dracolich

What better way to start the new year than with a deadly monster to talk about? The Dracolich is perhaps the most interesting monster in the Monster Manual. Much in the same way that a Lich is created a Dracolich starts with the creature being completely up their own rear end. The main, and most likely clearest difference is that instead of a humanoid spellcaster it’s a freakin dragon. An already insanely powerful foe decides ‘why not take it up a notch?’ and they take it up at least by three notches. A Dragon, any old dragon, that endeavors to be a big and slimy immortal skeleton must first convince some suckers into their multi level marketing scheme. Once the Dragon has the band together they work to get the a phylactery made. I’ve talked about this once before but essentially the Dragon kills itself and the mages puts its soul within a container of some sort, with Dragons its usually some sort of gemstone cause they are prima donnas.

The reason I wanted to talk about Dracolichs before a Dragon is because there is a lot of info to cover on dragons so thats’s gonna be a longer post and also cause this guy is a badass and I really wanted to talk about him. It just felt right. Any Dragon in the rainbow can become a Dracolich, adult or ancient of course this ain’t no kiddy shit, if they feel the need. When they complete the transformation they attain a bunch of new perks for leveling up, and occasionally lose some traits but that’s because they are now undead and are no longer constrained by mortal form. Dracolichs are intense enemies and will do just as much if not more than a regular Lich to live forever, and that makes them incredibly potent big bads.

Thanks for reading and be sure to let me know what your favorite monster is! Till next time.
