Monster Mania: Galeb Duhr

The gentle giant is a cliche that I have always loved. I like the subversion of a being with an intimidating presence but a heart of gold. With hopes of nothing but the betterment of others. The Galeb Duhr gives me those same vibes. They are typically found within the Elemental Plane of Earth, but on occasion a wizard may summon one or if there is a tear between the planes a Galeb Duhr could unwittingly find itself in the Material Plane. Once transported to their new home the Galeb Duhr will acclimate to their new environment to the point that they are able to control the landscape around them. Whether it is because of this ability or due to their advanced camouflage abilities, beings will conscript them into being defenders of a particular location from a wizard’s tower or a sacred land.

If approached patiently and without aggression Galeb Duhr have enough intelligence to attempt communication, but if talking fails they have plenty of abilities to defend themselves. Galeb Duhr has a basic slam attack that does a considerate amount of damage, but what sets it apart is its rolling charge and animate boulders. If it breaks into a run it can tighten its limbs to its body and turn into a massive rolling boulder like King Dodongo. This by itself is awesome and hilarious I think the enforcing yourself with some rocky backup is a hell of an ability. Essentially the Galeb Duhr makes two additional copies of it that can do almost all of the same things.

The Galeb Duhr appears like just an average monster, but I think beneath that rocky exterior lies a true friend and ally. I just really want to add a pet salesperson Galeb Duhr who sells pet rocks. I think I’m gonna do that. Yeah.
